OSCE Training

Yeovil Hospital’s OSCE training is delivered on a ward set up specifically for this course, and to date candidates have had a 100% success rate whom have taken the training.

OSCE Prep Training

Yeovil Hospital’s OSCE prep training is delivered over a five day programme* and based on the criteria set by the NMC. We are based offsite, (still in Yeovil) to larger premises with free parking and a nearby bus station. The course syllabus equips candidates with the practical and theoretical knowledge to pass the OSCE exam.

*Please note that when your OSCE training falls on a week where there is a UK bank holiday then the training courses will be condensed into four days.

Adult, Mental Health, Paediatrics, Midwifery, Learning disability training

The training reflects the blue print for current student nurse training in the UK. You are now expected to demonstrate your professional judgement and more elements of assessment have been included in the formal Test of Competency. Our training mirrors the NMC standards as set out in the TOC part 2.

You will cover all aspects of patient assessment, writing care-plans, safe drug administration, and verbal patient evaluations using the SBAR tool (Situation, background, Assessment, Recommendation).

Nursing Associate

The training reflects the blue print for current student nurse training in the UK. Return to Practice

For return to practice, you will undertake training related to your previous field of registration. The training for the TOC part 2 reflects the blueprint for current student nurse training in the UK. As the TOC is ever evolving our training also reflects this and is up-to date in real time. You will cover all aspects of patient assessment, care-planning, safe drug administration, evaluation of care using the SBAR tool (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) Evidence based practice, Professional Values and clinical Skills

Training Costs OSCE

Please note the Bespoke Training Resit is a three-hour course. This is only available for nurses who have not undertaken our training previously.

Please note our mock exam can only be booked if you have undergone OSCE training. Candidates must provide evidence of previous training.

Frequently Asked Questions - OSCE

Are there any refreshments available?
Refreshments and lunch: Coffee and tea is provided throughout the day and lunch is provided by the on-site café. We ask candidates to order their lunch for the week ahead on Monday morning, so that the café staff can order and prepare the meals in advance. The café offer a variety of meals, including vegetarian options, and try to be culturally inclusive. If there are any dietary requirements please ask candidates to let us know before they attend training. If candidates would like to purchase additional items from the café, they accept cash and card payments.

What feedback will be received and when?
Mock exam feedback will be emailed within 3-5 working days. Any other practice papers submitted via email is reviewed daily and feedback will be given within 3-5 working days.
Do I need to tell you when I have taken my exam?
To ensure we continue with a high standard of training, we request within the booking contract that candidates inform us of their OSCE results and feedback received from the formal exam.

How do I prepare for my OSCE?
On enrolment, all candidates will be given access to our Moodle Platform and it is important that you make use of the resources available on there. There are videos and resources for practicing.

How will I be notified of any changes within the training?
We post alerts on Moodle which will then automatically generate an email to inform you of any changes/important information.

How can I keep in contact?
You can send in any queries, questions and work for review to the OSCE email address (OSCETraining@YDH.NHS.UK) which is monitored daily (Monday-Friday). You can also follow our Facebook page and Twitter (@YdhOsce).
How can I practice after I finish the training week?
All resources are available on our Moodle platform and you will have access to this until you pass your formal OSCE exam. Please remember that the Moodle pages are specific to each different type of training, including the pathway you are on. It is important that you do not share resources or practice with other nurses on different training/pathway as the process are very different for each.

Will I be given any resources?
You will be given a goody bag with essentials so you can practice after training.
What time will training start and finish?
Training starts at 09:00 and finishes at 16:30 each day, except Thursday which is mock exam day and when the end time will depend on the size of the group taking the mock exam; therefore we advise that any travel is booked to be flexible.
Do I need to wear my uniform?
We ask that candidates attend in normal clothes, however on the Thursday (the day candidates will have their mock exam) please bring uniform/scrubs (if they have these). We ask that candidates change into uniform/scrubs at the venue upon arrival. There is a changing room available.
What is your cancellation policy?
Short notice cancellation fees

Within 2 weeks of training - 50% of charge.
Less than 2 weeks’ notice - full payment required.

However, we will always reschedule bookings to a different date if needed, we are here to help!
